Executive search for solar and energy services businesses.
INC'D recruits senior leaders for PE-backed solar, storage, energy efficiency and distributed energy businesses.
Policy, capital and field execution move at different speeds.
Solar and energy services combine lead generation, financing, permitting, installation, interconnection, customer care and a shifting policy environment. Leadership must manage the economics the business has today, not the model it had when the plan was written.
We look for executives with evidence of disciplined growth, installation control and adaptation through market change.
Roles we recruit.
What matters in the brief.
- Residential and commercial model
- Financing
- Policy and incentives
- Permitting and interconnection
- Installation capacity
- Dealer and direct channels
- Customer cancellation and service
- Working capital

Where solar and energy searches go wrong.
A CEO from the growth era
Revenue growth is not the measure that matters now. Acquisition cost per watt, the value of each financed customer and storage attachment are. Leaders shaped by the boom years can be the wrong fit today.
A CFO without project finance experience
Solar finance means tax equity partnerships, federal tax credit monetization and long-term financing facilities. It is closer to project finance than services finance, and the learning curve is long.
Treating permits and interconnection as a mid-level role
The time from permit to utility approval decides whether the business generates cash or consumes it. Shortening it is often worth more than new revenue.
Undervaluing storage
Solar-only installs can struggle to hit margin targets in many markets. The share of jobs that include a battery increasingly decides whether the business is viable.
The roles, explained.
- CEO or President
- Runs a disciplined business in a market where volume has fallen and precision matters, balancing financed and cash sales, residential and commercial work and storage expansion.
- Chief Financial Officer
- Owns long-term financing models, tax credit monetization and project finance structures, and values acquisitions on the installed customer base rather than install revenue.
- VP of Operations
- Accountable for install productivity, time from permit to utility approval and quality across jurisdictions, and for shared design, customer systems and install standards.
- General Manager
- Owns a regional P&L across install scheduling, sales conversion, permitting relationships and the residential and commercial mix.
- VP of Sales and Customer Acquisition
- Runs lead generation and conversion, including how financing options are presented, while keeping acquisition cost under control.
- Director of Permitting and Interconnection
- Manages utility interconnection and local permitting, and shortens the time from sale to a working system, which frees up cash.
- VP of Project Finance
- Manages relationships with tax equity investors, lenders and securitization markets, turning installed systems into bankable assets.
- Director of Install Crew Operations
- Owns install productivity, certification, safety and quality, and the seasonal scaling of crews and subcontractors.
What INC'D brings.
- We can tell a solar leader who understands today's economics from one whose instincts were formed in the earlier boom. The difference rarely shows on a résumé and matters more than anything else in the search.
- We know the tax equity, infrastructure finance and power producer executives who form the main crossover group for solar CFO roles.
- We know where residential and commercial solar leadership overlap and where they diverge.
- We know which leaders have genuinely shifted from chasing install volume to attaching storage and running disciplined unit economics.
How INC'D searches this market.
We recruit solar and energy-services leaders against the financing, policy, channel, installation and customer-service model of the business. Candidates must show disciplined adaptation through market change, not growth achieved under one set of incentives. A typical shortlist contains three to five qualified leaders within two to four weeks of engagement.
